Cambodian telco Cellcard revealed on Friday it has signed an MoU with local ride-hailing firm PassApp, which will leverage Cellcard’s 5G network to enhance the travel experience for its drivers and passengers.
Under a deal signed earlier this month, PassApp customers and drivers will be able to use the ride-hailing app without internet charges via sponsored data provided by PassApp and Cellcard.
Cellcard will also provide 5G-enabled SIM cards to PassApp’s driver-partners to strengthen connection stability and ensure efficient customer service.
“PassApp driver-partners will receive stable internet and connectivity from Cellcard, helping them receive bookings faster, communicate with passengers easily, and travel smoothly,” said Cellcard CEO Yap Kok Leong in a statement.
Cellcard added that eventually, users will also be able to purchase and activate cellcard eSIMs directly through the PassApp application.
Earlier this month, rival telco Smart Axiata signed a similar MoU with super app firm Grab. Under that deal, Smart and Grab will look to provide SIMs for tourists and travellers paired with Grab Mobility services, digital rewards and service bundles combining 5G with Grab’s services.
Both operators launched 5G services, along with Metfone, in January this year.
