Malawian farmers will now be able to receive payments directly into their mobile wallets after a deal agreed between a local branch of Airtel Money and the country’s Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (ADMARC).
Airtel Money Malawi and ADMARC have announced the launch of a digital payment platform for the country's agricultural value chain.
As ITWeb Africa points out, the partnership integrates Airtel Money services into ADMARC's operations, enabling customers to pay electronically for agricultural commodities and services while reducing reliance on cash-based transactions.
The platform will enable customers to make payments instantly using their Airtel Money accounts, reducing dependence on cash-based transactions and improving efficiency and service delivery.
The development is expected to expand access to digital financial services, particularly among rural communities where agriculture is often the main employer.

Direct payments into mobile wallets will not only improve convenience for farmers but also strengthen transparency by creating electronic records for every transaction.
Not surprisingly, this move is at least partly driven by the widespread availability of mobile phones and Airtel Money services across the country, creating opportunities to connect more farmers to formal digital financial platforms.
ADMARC plays a critical role in the purchase and sale of key agricultural commodities and manages essential infrastructure, such as cotton ginneries, processing plants and depots, across Malawi.
