Elea Data Centres says it is partnering with renewable energy company AXIA Energia to launch what they say is the first neutral AI data centre in the Amazon region in the second quarter of 2027.
In a statement issued Monday, Elea said the new data centre, BEL1, will be located in Belém, Pará, with an initial IT load capacity of 7.5MW, which could potentially expand to as much as 100MW in future phases.
Elea will be responsible for operating BEL1, while AXIA will supply 100% renewable energy to the project under a power purchase agreement (PPA) already signed by both companies. AXIA will also work together with Elea to evaluate solutions to support the capacity expansions planned for future phases of the project.
Elea said the new data centre will be built near AXIA’s Miramar high-voltage substation, ensuring high energy reliability, flexibility for future expansions, and greater operational efficiency.
Elea said its expansion into Belém is a strategic move to broaden the geographic distribution of its platform and strengthen Brazil’s digital infrastructure.
Elea CEO and founder Alessandro Lombardi said that decision was also informed by Belém serving as the host city for COP 30 last year, which demonstrated the region’s potential to attract structural and sustainable investments.
“The North region will play a fundamental role in the Brazilian digital ecosystem by providing an alternative route to Fortaleza and by helping reduce digital inequality and boost regional competitiveness,” Lombardi said in a statement.
Ítalo Freitas, VP of Commercialization and Energy Solutions at AXIA, said the deal positions the energy firm prominently in Brazil’s growing data centre market.
“The partnership with Elea reinforces AXIA’s role as a provider of integrated solutions for its clients, enabling innovative and strategic business ventures and projects focused on digital transformation,” Freitas said.
Not including BEL1, Elea Data Centres operates nine interconnected data centre campuses across Brazil, with over 300MW of powered land and over 1GW currently in development. Independent infrastructure investment manager I Squared Capital announced a deal to acquire the company in April this year.
