Nokia Bell Labs and Aramco to develop industrial 5G use cases

Nokia Bell Labs says it has signed a non-binding R&D collaboration agreement with energy company Aramco to develop 5G-powered Industry 4.0 use cases for Saudi Arabia and the Middle East, and North Africa (MENA) region.
Under the agreement, the two companies will combine their R&D efforts to develop digital use cases and joint proof-of-concept solutions for vertical industries ranging from oil and gas and utilities to mining, manufacturing and logistics.
Nokia Bell Labs and Aramco aim to expand enterprise industrial automation applications by testing and validating technologies in real-world deployments.
In particular, the tie-up will focus on nurturing a “comprehensive ecosystem for 5G and emerging technologies” to integrate leading-edge technologies in industrial sectors.
Nabil Nuaim, senior VP of Aramco Digital & Information Technology, said MoU is “a major step towards digitalizing our industries and transforming our national talent capabilities. Together, we aim to foster a culture of innovation, pushing the boundaries of what's possible in our industrial sectors during this Industry 4.0 era.”
Nokia Bell Labs added that whatever solutions are produced with the Aramco tie-up will also be pitched to help accelerate digital transformation in the the Middle East, and North Africa (MENA) region, as well as globally.
