At the 11th global Ultra-Broadband Forum (UBBF 2025), Huawei's President of the Optical Access Domain, Feng Zhishan, officially launched an Intelligent ONT at the F5.5G All-Optical Summit.
The Intelligent ONT is a next-generation ONT that comprehensively upgrades the network, services, and O&M, helping carriers build more intelligent, reliable, and superior Wi-Fi experience and accelerate the commercial use of F5.5G worldwide.
Intelligent connectivity: Wi-Fi 7 tri-band architecture + AI anti-interference, building an ultimate connectivity foundation
The intelligent ONT is the first to use the industry-leading Wi-Fi 7 tri-band 3+3+3 technical architecture, fully unleashing the potential of the new 6GHz frequency band. The tested rate exceeds 4Gbps, which is 50% higher than that of traditional products, providing solid support for bandwidth-hungry applications such as 8K UHD video, VR/AR immersive interaction, and cloud gaming. In addition, it deeply integrates the AI anti-interference algorithm and can identify more than 100,000 interference models in real time to accurately cope with complex scenarios such as human movement and adjacent-channel interference. In interference environments, the network rate can still be increased by 20%, achieving true "full signal bars and no speed drop", allowing users to enjoy gigabit/ultra-gigabit experience anytime, anywhere.
Intelligent services: From pipe to engine, unleashing the new value of smart homes
Compared with traditional ONTs which function only as connection channels, the intelligent ONT is an intelligent service center for smart homes. It integrates Wi-Fi sensing technology and smart computing capabilities to accurately detect indoor presence status (occupied or unoccupied) without extra cameras or sensors. The Wi-Fi signals are converted into an invisible intelligent sensing network. This capability can be widely used in home security and elderly care scenarios. In addition, the device supports app-level intelligent acceleration, which achieves dynamic QoS scheduling and low latency assurance for key applications such as games, live streaming, and online learning. This ensures that core services are preferentially transmitted, providing a smooth user experience. Using this feature, carriers can develop value-added services and open up a new blue ocean of home DICT.
Intelligent O&M: Trouble Free intelligent O&M, ensuring services always online
To address the pain points in home network O&M, the intelligent ONT provides the Trouble Free intelligent O&M solution, ensuring high availability and no network disconnection if the fiber is cut. If the optical fiber link is unexpectedly interrupted, the device can automatically switch to a wireless backup channel such as a mobile phone hotspot, ensuring that key services such as video conferencing, remote office, and smart home appliances remain online, achieving true ‘always online’ services. In addition, the ONT supports self-diagnosis and self-optimization. It can intelligently identify six types of common faults, such as interference, coverage holes, and configuration exceptions; analyze root causes; and proactively rectify the faults. This greatly reduces the door-to-door maintenance rate and OPEX, and significantly improves O&M efficiency and user satisfaction.
