Globecomm Systems has won a contract to provide wireless managed services in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

The managed network solutions provider will supply CDMA-450 switching facilities for voice and data services to wireless operator subscribers and interconnected partners in Sierra Leone. This unique architecture enables the CDMA-450 radio network to be connected via satellite to Globecomm’s hosted Mobile Switch Controller (MSC) and Value Added Services (VAS) in New York. In addition, the network incorporates a WiMAX network for additional connectivity throughout the city.

The firm’s hosted switch platform now carries millions of minutes of voice traffic, hundreds of gigabytes of data traffic, for wireless operators from North America, to the Caribbean and now into Africa. With full redundancy for all major components, the hosted switch platform provides a 100-percent IP-based soft-switch architecture with a forward path to 4G/LTE.

Globecomm maintains a dedicated power system in its New York-based Network Operations Centre in support of these switch platforms, where engineers and technicians provide 24/7 network monitoring and customer support. Redundant fibre circuits and generator systems also support the Globecomm facility.
