Viettel secures 240MHz spectrum for Dominican Republic network launch

Vietnamese telecoms group Viettel is preparing to enter the Dominican Republic after securing 240MHz of spectrum, making the Caribbean nation its 11th international telecoms market.
Viettel Global, the group's international investment arm, was awarded spectrum across the 700MHz, 2.3GHz and 3.6GHz bands by Dominican regulator INDOTEL. The licences are valid for 20 years and provide the operator with spectrum for 4G and 5G network deployment.
The award was made under INDOTEL Resolution No. 073-2026 on August 19. Viettel must sign the corresponding concession agreement within 90 days and is also establishing a local entity ahead of the launch.
Viettel said it plans to invest in telecoms infrastructure in the country, including extending coverage to underserved and remote areas, while developing digital services for consumers and businesses.
The Dominican Republic will become Viettel's first new international telecoms market as the Vietnamese group expands its presence across Asia, Africa and Latin America.
Viettel currently operates in 10 overseas markets, seven of which have the largest mobile subscriber base in their respective countries. Its international operations generated US$3.34 billion in revenue in 2025, up 23.9% year-on-year and marking the ninth consecutive year of double-digit growth.
Viettel Group chairman and CEO Tao Duc Thang said the company would take a long-term approach to the Dominican market, focusing on modern infrastructure and advanced technologies.
The entry comes as demand for high-speed connectivity and digital services continues to grow in the Dominican Republic, one of the Caribbean's larger economies.
