Brunei’s leading mobile operator Telekom Brunei Berhad (TelBru) has selected Aptilo Networks to enable carrier Wi-Fi for its Nationwide Wi-Fi service.
TelBru’s Wi-Fi network will deploy nationwide through more than 60 Wi-Fi hotspots. The Aptilo Service Management Platform (SMP) enables carrier Wi-Fi in a highly scalable platform, supporting rapid growth of the Wi-Fi network, providing a seamless experience that offers “invisible” handoffs when roaming between Wi-Fi hotspots.
Initially, users will enjoy 30 minutes of free Wi-Fi after requesting an SMS code. Shortly after, TelBru will enable prepaid access through vouchers, and postpaid access for existing users of the operator’s fixed wireless service.
TelBru will monetise the network by enabling Wi-Fi services to verticals such as sports venues, airports and coffee shops. They will also offer wholesale capacity to MNOs and establish roaming agreements with operators overseas to further expand their customer base.
“Carrier Wi-Fi is key to customer retention, and is also a compelling business-to-business proposition that generates revenue for carriers,” said Jan Sjönell, Managing Director APAC, Aptilo Networks.
