Russian alternative telecoms operator Synterra has announced the commercial launch of what is believed to be the first WiMAX network in
Synterra has unveiled plans to invest about US$3 million in network development in the capital city this year and about US$4million in the surrounding areas.
The company claims that it is currently signing up only corporate customers and that by the end of 2006 it expects to have several thousand clients. Synterra was formed in autumn 2005 when Komet, RT Comm and Telecom-Centre united forces with the aim of creating a new, independent, national telecommunications operator.
