China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) is close to approving Apple’s iPhone 6 for sale in the country.
A rigorous reviewing process for devices is the most likely reason why China was not among the first wave of markets to launch the iPhone 6, although technical issues could also be the cause. This is the first iPhone iteration to use NFC, which may have delayed the approval process.
However, some reports have claimed that China is placing greater restrictions on foreign companies, while there are also suggestions that Apple is reconsidering its approach of releasing devices simultaneously in key markets.
MIIT chief Miao Wei said: “The iPhone 6 has entered the final stage of the approval process, now it’s just a matter of time.” While he avoided suggesting a potential date, he added that the review would yield a result “very soon.”
