SES to supply next-gen inflight connectivity to Air Astana

Satellite operator SES revealed on Thursday it has been selected by Kazakhstan’s flagship airline, Air Astana, to install next-gen in-flight connectivity services across its Airbus A321LR fleet.

The first connected aircraft entered commercial service last week, equipped with SES’s new electronically steered array (ESA) antenna to deliver connectivity over SES’s multi-orbit network. Deployment is continuing across the rest of the A321LR fleet.

Blane Boynton, senior VP of aviation at SES, said the operatore will provide a fully managed in-flight connectivity service for Air Astana, promising passengers a seamless online experience throughout their flight.

“SES's multi-orbit solution will enable Air Astana to offer a consistent, high-quality online experience across its network and bring a new era of in-flight connectivity to passengers throughout Central Asia and beyond,” he said in a statement.

Elena Obukhova, VP of inflight services at Air Astana, said the deal is the latest in its efforts to boost its onboard experience, which currently includes complimentary streaming services for premium customers and flexible paid packages for economy class travelers, supported by Kazakh telco QMobile.

“Our partnership with SES will enable Air Astana to offer a modern, high-quality connectivity experience that reflects the premium service our customers expect,” she said. “By combining multi-orbit satellite technology with our onboard experience, we are investing in greater comfort, convenience and value for our passengers.”
