Telkom Indonesia unveils AI COE to boost national AI ecosystem

Telkom Indonesia revealed over the weekend that it has launched an AI Centre of Excellence (CoE) supported by its digital services arm Telkom Solution that it describes as a “national AI ecosystem enabler.”

Announced on the sidelines of Telkom’s BATIC 2025 conference in Bali last Thursday, the AI COE includes four program pillars, including a collaborative platform with universities, a space for practical exploration and research, a networking platform to connect AI players and startups with business people, and a hub to create viable AI-powered solutions for various industries.

Veranita Yosephine, Telkom’s director of enterprise and business service, said the COE aims to strengthen collaboration between Telkom Indonesia and AI stakeholders in the public and private sector, including education, government and startups in developing AI solutions and digital transformation in Indonesia.

"With capabilities in the field of technology and the largest access to the cross-segment enterprise market including private industry, government to UMKM [Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises], Telkom will act as a business partner in providing solutions that are tailored to the needs and characteristics of customers, so that it will be able to provide a concrete impact for customers," she said.

The COE will also leverage Telkom's AI platform, AI BigBox, which sports capabilities such as analytics, machine learning, large language models (LLM), and natural language processing (NLP), and is already being used by institutions, companies and MSMEs for use cases such as chatbots, e-KYC and cybersecurity monitoring.

Telkom digital IT director Faizal R. Djoemadi said the AI COE will serve as a primary accelerator for Indonesia's transformation and digitization.

"We believe that the presence of Telkom Indonesia AI Centre of Excellence is able to become a centre for development, collaboration, and implementation of artificial intelligence to become a driving force for digitalization in government and industrial transformation in Indonesia so that it gives positive benefits to society and the nation's economy," Faizal said.
