New partnership plans green data centre in Malysia

Key ASIC, a Malaysian semiconductor and energy-efficient ASIC design specialist, and CT Vision, an investment and green technology group, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for a partnership to develop a large-scale, fully integrated green AI data centre (AIDC) complex in Malaysia.

The project will encompass the design, construction, ownership and operation of on-site and associated renewable energy assets, including solar, wind and other complementary clean energy sources, to provide reliable, low-carbon electricity directly to the data centre. This integrated model enables dedicated clean energy generation to support the AIDC’s operations.

The facility has a planned total IT load of approximately 300MW within five years of its launch and will be purpose built for AI and machine learning workloads, as well as supercomputing and enterprise cloud services.

The project is targeting 100% renewable energy penetration with around 50% self-generated on-site/associated green power, and a power usage effectiveness (PUE) ratio of less than or equal to 1.20, which, the partners say, significantly exceeds global and regional sustainability benchmarks.

Mr Eg Kah Yee, Executive Chairman and CEO of Key ASIC Berhad, explains: “This partnership represents a paradigm shift: we are not merely constructing a data centre, but building a green energy-to-AI ecosystem. By building and generating our own green energy specifically for AIDC use, we achieve exceptional energy security, long-term cost competitiveness and full ESG accountability.

Lian Mingcheng, executive director of CT Vision, adds: “Malaysia offers outstanding renewable resources, strategic geographic location and stable policy environment – ideal for next-generation AI infrastructure.”

The MoU includes a ten-year confidentiality clause. It's not yet clear where in the country the complex is to be built. However, feasibility studies, site planning, and engineering and commercial structuring are planned to take place by the end of the year.
