Digital payment, digitisation, and FinAI solutions company Ant International has received a Payment Institution (PI) licence from the Central Bank of Brazil.
The PI licence builds on the services Ant International already offers in the market through Antom, its merchant payment and digitalisation platform, which enables merchants to accept PIX (a Brazilian payment method), credit cards, and a wide variety of alternative payment methods. The licence will strengthen Ant International's local and cross-border payment capabilities in Brazil.
Rodrigo Reif, General Manager, Ant International Brazil, explains: “With the Central Bank's invaluable support, we are ready to step up more reliable and comprehensive global payment and account services to enterprises, platforms and SMEs in the country's dynamic digital economy, in ever deeper collaboration with its highly developed payments ecosystem and financial services industry.”
This is already proving to be a busy month for Ant International, which announced on 1 September that the Philippine Payments Management Inc (PPMI), the country’s payment system management body, and Ant International's unified wallet gateway, Alipay+, have officially enabled Alipay+ on QR Ph, seamlessly connecting the nation's digital payments ecosystem with global commerce. QR Ph is the official national quick-response code standard in the Philippines to unify digital payments and fund transfers
By connecting this rapidly growing national QR network to Alipay+'s global ecosystem, international consumers can use their home e-wallets and banking apps to scan and pay directly at any QR Ph-accepting merchants nationwide.
Merchants can now receive payments from Alipay+ partner users through their existing QR Ph codes, enabling local businesses, particularly micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), to participate in cross-border commerce and benefit from the growing flow of international travellers and digital consumers.
