Mobile will continue to enable innovative new services in emerging markets across 2013.

Mobile technologies have majorly impacted the development of emerging countries. Many of those regions are experiencing high GDP growth, some of which can be attributed to mobile. Lagos, Rio de Janeiro and Beijing are waking up under the rustling of related startups; mobile money is a national asset in Kenya.

And, amidst the sound and the fury between the buzzing cloud computing and the all-over data storm, it is likely that mobile will still be the premier technology play in emerging countries with reliance on three enablers that will broaden its ubiquity.

The Mobile Network: A fundamental ubiquity enabler is the mobile network. 3G will finally democratize access to mobile communications and broadband, and will open doors to the society of knowledge.
Satellite Backhaul: In this adventure, satellite mobile backhaul will be the number two enabler and will contribute to bridging the digital divide; it will provide global coverage and capacity to rural and remote areas.
Smartphones: Finally, smartphones and apps will complete the picture as the 3rd strongest pervasive enabler, invading all markets irrespectively.

2013 will, therefore, be the year of mobile and the consolidation of its ecosystem in the emerging countries, facilitating the way to further sophisticated technologies and services for a better future.
