Iraq’s Asiacell deploys IPv6 Dual Stack to support IPv4-IPv6 transition

Asiacell announced on Tuesday it has become the first telecoms company in Iraq to successfully implement IPv6 Dual Stack technology.

In a Facebook post, Asiacell said its deployment of IPv6 Dual Stack – which allows both IPv4 and IPv6 protocols to operate simultaneously – will ensure a smoother transition to next-generation internet standards while maintaining service continuity for existing users.

Asiacell said its subscribers will benefit from the upgrade with faster connectivity, improved cloud performance, and 5G-ready infrastructure. The telco also said the IPv6 Dual Stack reaffirms its commitment to digital transformation and deploying the latest technologies.

According to Google’s IPv6 Statistics page – which tracks adoption of IPv6 around the world – Iraq ranks at no. 186 (out of 262 countries) with an IPv6 adoption rate of 0.56%. APNIC Labs lists Iraq’s IPv6 capability rate at 0.62%.

Asiacell said the IPv6 Dual Stack upgrade was implemented under the supervision and sponsorship of the Iraqi Communications and Media Commission (CMC).
