Liberty Latin America (LLA) tapped voice security company Hiya to launch call protection software for subscribers in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.
In a statement, LLA said it will launch its call protection service Liberty Call Defence this autumn, it will be powered by Hiya Protect which integrates with LLA’s Ericsson IP Multimedia Subsystem. This enables the identification of incoming spam and fraudulent calls attempting to connect to subscribers at the network level.
Research from Hiya found 8% of unidentified calls in Puerto Rico are spam and over one in 10 of those are fraud calls.
“As spam and fraud is plaguing consumers across nearly every channel of communications, including the internet and mobile devices, we are committed to ensuring the safety and security of our customers' most important communications,” said Liberty Latin America Chief Technology and Product Officer, Aamir Hussain.
“As voice remains consumers' preferred method of communication, it’s also potentially the most susceptible to spam and fraud – challenging network providers to establish greater trust in the voice network," added Hiya President Kush Parikh.
