Malaysian operator U Mobile announced on Thursday it has partnered with Telenor Linx to launch SIM-based phone number verification (PNV) on its 5G network.

The PNV service enables digital platforms and service providers to verify users without requiring them to manually enter an SMS one-time password (OTP). U Mobile said this will help simplify registration, login and identity verification while strengthening fraud prevention and digital trust.

U Mobile’s partnership with Telenor Linx also enables its PNV service to be made available to developers using Google Firebase, extending the service to a broader developer ecosystem, said U Mobile’s chief business officer How Lih Ren.

“As more of our everyday activities move online, authentication needs to be secure without making the experience unnecessarily complicated for users,” he said in a statement. Through our partnership with Telenor Linx, we are extending the capabilities of U Mobile’s network beyond connectivity to help businesses provide a simpler way for customers to verify their mobile numbers.”

“The value of SIM-based verification grows with every operator that joins the ecosystem,” added Stig Atle Waagbø, CEO of Telenor Linx. “This collaboration demonstrates how mobile operators can create new value from their networks while strengthening digital trust.”
