Vodafone Cameroon has been officially shuttered with immediate effect, with its parent firm Afrimax stating that it “reluctantly concluded that it was no longer commercially viable to return” to the market.

[Afrimax signed a non-equity partner agreement with Vodafone Cameroon in 2016](https://developingtelecoms.com/tech/wireless-networks/6720-vodafone-extends-partner-market-agreement-with-afrimax-to-cameroon.html), and has managed the operator ever since. However, Vodafone Cameroon obtained its licence after Afrimax acquired another company, Northwave, and this has caused the country’s regulator to declare the licence invalid on the grounds that the rights to the licence cannot be held by another company.

Vodafone Cameroon’s licence has been suspended by the country’s telecoms regulatory board and ministry of posts and telecommunications since 14th September. This has stymied its plans to expand its 4G network across a further ten regions in Cameroon.

In four months of offering services, Vodafone Cameroon was able to accrue 15,000 customers.
