State-owned operator Uztelecom has upgraded 1,566 base stations and launched 380 new ones across Uzbekistan as it expands mobile coverage and develops its 5G network.

In a statement, the operator said the work covered the Republic of Karakalpakstan, all 12 regions of Uzbekistan and the capital Tashkent as of October 18, 2026. Of the upgraded and newly deployed infrastructure, 375 base stations support 5G.

Uztelecom also completed 442 frequency expansion works, increasing network capacity to handle growing demand for mobile data, particularly during peak periods.
The operator exceeded its target for modernising existing base stations, completing 1,566 upgrades against a plan of 1,507. However, the rollout of new sites remains ongoing, with 380 launched against a target of 431.

Tashkent city recorded the highest number of modernised stations, at 194, followed by Tashkent region with 189. Samarkand region led new deployments with 62 stations, while Tashkent city and Kashkadarya region each received 52.

The 5G network is concentrated in Tashkent city, which has 189 5G-capable stations, and Samarkand region, with 84. Uztelecom said 5G infrastructure was present in all 14 administrative regions, although availability at individual locations depends on coverage and device compatibility.

The network expansion is intended to improve connection stability, increase capacity in busy areas and extend coverage for services including video calls, distance learning and business applications.
